The Vortex

A vortex is a light anomaly which usually manifests in the form of a long thin thread or – less commonly – as a vapour funnel. Sometimes confused with the tail of an orb which is moving at high speed, the vortex is believed by some to be a portal into the spirit realm.

More often than not, images which are described as ‘vortices’ are in fact nothing more than camera straps, hair, fingers etc which have passed across the lens of the camera at a crucial moment, giving spectacular but false results.

The image below was captured by The Orb Whisperers at the old Packhorse Bridge in Caergwrle, North Wales in July 2008.  As well as the main anomaly, at least 4 very faint orbs are just discernable.  Camera strap, hair and fingers can definitely be ruled out in this case.
