Begun in 1277 by Edward I ('Longshanks' of Braveheart fame) Rhuddlan Castle was completed in 1282, the year of the Welsh conquest and was one of a ring of castles constructed in North Wales to subdue the ever rebellious countrymen of the last true Prince of Wales, Llewellyn ap Gruffydd.

800 years and the wrath of Oliver Cromwell later, Rhuddlan - once the home of Kings and Princes - stands ruined and quiet on a rise above the river Clwyd.

The images below were taken on an overcast day in July 2008 and may give rise to the notion that all is not so quiet at Castell Rhuddlan after all!

Spirit Orbs at Rhuddlan Castle

2 distinct orbs appear on this image, loooking from one of the ruined towers into the castle itself where Queen Eleanor's fishponds once stood.

Although not visible to the naked eye and certainly not noticed until these images were later examined, a blue orb is clearly distinguishable in the 'doorway' in the castle wall at the bottom of the picture above.  Has a single sentry remained on duty at Rhuddlan Castle?!

An orb, clearly visible, inside one of the ruined towers. Mid afternoon, July 2008.

Another orb was caught on camera in the same tower, rather faint, but just visible in the centre of the picture.
